Karyn's thoughts on the Lawrence finance bill

Later today, the General Court is poised to take action on a bill to bail out the city of Lawrence from its financial difficulties.

I know a bad investment when I see one, and this bill is a bad investment for our state and its hardworking taxpayers.

So, while I don’t question the need for immediate assistance in Lawrence, I do question the way the state is going about delivering help. As a State Representative, I plan to vote against this bill today. And if elected Treasurer, I will do whatever is in my power to increase local aid to improve the fiscal health of cities and towns, and to protect the people of Massachusetts from bad investments like the Lawrence bill.

PRESS RELEASE - Karyn Polito Announces Candidacy for State Treasurer and Receiver General

BOSTON - Shrewsbury resident Karyn Polito officially announced today that she is a candidate for Treasurer and Receiver General for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Speaking at a press conference at Boston's historic Omni Parker House, Polito told a gathering of supporters the state’s pension system is “unsustainable going forward” and that she will propose denying future state elected officials pensions as the first step toward reform.

“This one simple step will go a long way to taking the politics out of our pension system. It will substitute sound objective reasoning when it comes to deciding benefits as opposed to the self-interest and greed we see in all too many cases,” Polito said.

Good morning, and thank you all for being here today.

There’s no question that there is an exciting new movement underway in Massachusetts. Now, more than in any other recent years, people are actively engaged in the future of their government. They feel empowered to make change.

People who know me know that I’m a very passionate person, someone who cares deeply in the causes I believe in. And, I want to be part of the movement to bring real and lasting change to our government.

And that is why I have decided to announce that, as of today, I am officially a candidate to be the next Treasurer and Receiver General of the Commonwealth.

PRESS ADVISORY - Karyn Polito to Make Political Announcement

Karyn Polito, a resident of Shrewsbury and a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, will make a political announcement Monday, March 1, at the Omni Parker House in Boston.
